Do You Need To Get A Hair Transplant

by Douglas Mortonson

Because of increasingly improving methods, it is becoming far more common for people to have hair transplant procedures. Many people feared getting the procedures in the past, because they were not well done and you could see obvious hair plugs on people who had undergone them although this is rarely true anymore. Still, there are many facts about the procedures that are not understood.

Men over the age of 50 in the United States are afflicted by baldness on a massive level and it is approximated that 50 percent of American men have hair loss. Hair problems in today’s society beg to be conquered although some men do it by shaving their heads completely. Some prefer the option of going with a hair transplant procedure. Those who accept their baldness may have a healthy psyche, but they are slightly out of step with the rest of the world.

Some people believe that these surgical procedures are as easily reversed as removing a wig but this is not true. Not only will your head may never look the same, you will require a number of surgical treatments. The person who has a few hair grafts is committed to their hair transplant surgery regardless of any doctor’s promise to try out a few grafts to see if you like it.

You might think that because the surgery is so easy to bear that you can just jump back into your activities, but the truth is, you’ll need plenty of rest after hair transplant surgery. You might believe that post-surgery care of your scalp is not as difficult or as necessary as post-surgery care of muscle or bone, but this isn’t true. You’ll have a head full of tiny wounds that absolutely must be protected after surgery.

The time commitment for hair transplant surgery is often immense with treatments lasting one or two years. In order to shorten the amount of time required, some patients opt to undergo a mega-session where many thousands of grafts are done in one sitting. The commitment required for these sessions is grueling in and of itself, often requiring a serious amount of time to be performed.

In addition to hair transplant surgery, there are other procedures it may have to be combined with so if you do not have enough hair, you cannot undergo the procedure. There are other surgeries that can be done at the same time to achieve similar results. These procedures are actually far more painful for the patient.

Typically, many grafts will not make it after the hair transplant surgery. The hope is that only a few will be lost and the overall result will not suffer. The reality is that often grafts do not survive despite all the effort involved.

You should realize that hair transplant surgery is not as taxing on your wallet as you might otherwise believe and you can expect to pay about ,000. For a person who has the procedure done at 30 and dies 40 years later, the transplant would cost an estimated 300 dollars per year. Twenty-five dollars per month is much more than many so-called low cost hair loss treatments cost. You would actually save by getting the surgery done in the first place.
