Herpes Outbreaks: Do You Understand?
The stages herpes outbreaks can be difficult and painful. However, with understanding and knowledge, outbreaks can either be stopped altogether or at least have the most intense symptoms minimized. Herpes outbreaks can be best explained by detailing the stages of the virus and the symptoms of an outbreak.
Genital herpes is spread through sexual activity. Once the virus enters your body (usually through the soft mucous membranes of the genital area), it can lie dormant for weeks, months or even years. While the virus lies dormant – in the ganglia of nerves at the base of your spine – your immune system cannot detect it and this is what makes genital herpes a lifetime virus. There is no cure for genital herpes.
Once the virus is triggered (and there is not yet any scientific understanding of exactly what triggers herpes outbreaks; suspects are extended levels of stress, unresolved anger, friction at the outbreak site, ultraviolet light, possible imbalance of amino acid levels), it starts to travel along the nerves in and around your pelvic region. First symptoms can be tingling, intense itching and slight burning at the potential outbreak site.
Almost immediately, your immune system will recognize the HSV2 virus in your body and start to fight it. You may experience swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, headaches, and possibly fever as signs this is happening. It is quite possible to abort the attack or at least reduce the severity and duration of the symptoms by taking a few supplements at this point. Recommended anti-viral remedies would be oil of oregano, Vitamin C with zinc, or panax ginseng.
Should the virus develop into a full herpes outbreak, you can expect a single sore or lesion, or a small cluster of bumps, a rash, or any combination of the described. Swelling and pain are also possible. Not all herpes outbreaks are identical and they can very drastically in severity and duration. What is reported as very common is the intense itching and burning at the site of the outbreak for several days.
As the outbreak starts to heal you will feel a lessening in symptoms (swelling, pain, redness) and a crust may form over the sore or outbreak to protect the new skin forming underneath. It is important to let the outbreak heal on its own and not to interfere in anyway. It is very rare for any scarring or residual effects to linger after the complete healing of a herpes outbreak.
