Shower Filters… To Buy Or Not To Purchase?

Are there reasons for you or anyone to install shower filters? Filters are used on faucets for drinking water, but why would you want or nee one in your shower? Having a shower filter is equally important to having a filter for your drinking water. While filters on faucets remove chemicals that can cause physiological damage to our bodies when we drink them, shower filters remove chemicals that cause drying effects on your skin and hair and also prevent you from inhaling harmful chemicals during your steamy, hot shower.

In just one short shower, one may not realize how many harmful chemicals and how much chlorine is taken into the body. Turning your shower beyond a certan temperature, the mist created can cause the chemicals that your body takes in 50% more chlorinated, not to point out all the VOCs associated with it; pesticides, chloroform etc.. that you may as well consume a half gallon of water. In the aqueous phase of showering, the tepid water opens pores causing volatile organic compounds to enter your body; these compounds are the reason we have dry skin and brittle hair.

So what happens? How do filters keep harmful chemicals from being inhaled or affecting the skin? Filters rid your water of bad chemicals with ion-binding zinc and copper media kinetic degradation fluxion (KDF). When water goes through the filter it gets rid of toxins and metals by generating a galvanic reaction combining zinc ions and chlorine, shaping a non harmful chemical called zinc chloride. KDF also bonds with and removes other heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and copper.

The price of the shower filter is a factor of whether it has only KDF or both KDF and carbon. The least expensive filters contain KDF solely, which is only responsible for the removal of chlorine. A filter with both KDF and carbon must be purchased to remove other chemicals besides chlorine. Filters containing multi function features are available at a higher cost. These filters contain magnets and these types of energizing materials that can help damaged skin and hair.

You ought to change your shower filter at least one time a year. Your shower filter may have to be changed a couple times a year, especially if there is high traffic to the shower or if your water has a large amount of deposit. If you want a re-nourished feel to your everyday health, adding a shower filter will help. By not allowing certain harsh chemicals from getting into your body and damaging your skin and hair, it is a good idea to add a filter in your shower to stop the damaging effects. Depending on how much you are going to spend on a shower filter will depend on what abilities it will possess; many types of filters are sold to meet the needs of the consumer. Good luck finding YOUR ideal shower filter!
